Library membership is free for everyone; join digitally now or visit your local library for full membership.

Become a library member

The range of different library membership options are described below.

Digital library membership

Worcestershire library members have free access to a wide range of digital resources including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and subscription only E-resources, completely free of charge.

Full library membership

To become a full library member visit a library and provide proof of your name (photographic evidence such as passport or driving license) and address (recent utility bill or similar document.) If you are unable to provide proof of name and address you can still join the library as an instant member. Instant membership gives you access to library computers and Wi-Fi for free and allows you to borrow 2 books.

Full Library Membership will give you access to the following services:

  • Borrow and reserve books, spoken word CDs and sound recordings from any library in the county.
  • Borrow from our free collection of eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines and eNewspapers as well as our large online resource and reference collections
  • Access library computers or Wi-Fi for free
  • DVD and Blu-Ray hire
  • Access library activities, such as readers' group, children's activities, summer reading challenge and more
  • Adult and family learning courses both for qualifications and leisure

Children's library membership (0 to 12 years)

Children aged between 0 and 12 years can:

  • visit their local library with a parent or guarantor and get full library membership
  • visit their local library without a parent or guarantor and become an instant member, which allows you to borrow up to 2 books at a time

Children aged between 8 and 12 years can:

  • join online to get access to all the online services and eLibrary

Young people's library membership (13 to 17 years)

To join the library, young people aged between 13 to 17 years can:

  • visit their  local library with a parent or guarantor and get full library membership including access to computers and the internet
  • visit their local library without a parent or guarantor and become an instant member, which allows you to borrow up to 2 books at a time
  • join online to get access to all the online services and eLibrary

Libraries Unlocked

Libraries Unlocked has launched in Droitwich and Stourport Libraries; a new service from Worcestershire Libraries offering longer opening hours and more flexibility for customers and community groups to use their local library at times that are convenient to them.

Libraries service behaviour guidelines and byelaws

Worcestershire Libraries provides a safe and welcoming space. Unacceptable behaviour will be managed and warnings or sanctions given as appropriate, including being asked to leave and exclusion from Worcestershire Libraries where necessary. 

Unacceptable behaviour includes but is not limited to:

  • disruptive behaviour: e.g., excessive noise, swearing or offensive language 
  • aggressive, threatening or intimidating language directed at staff or other visitors, including comments of a discriminatory nature, sexual innuendo and threats to staff made in writing, by email, text or on social media 
  • aggressive, threatening or intimidating behaviour directed at staff or other visitors, including unwelcome physical attention or touching, attempted or actual assault and failing to respect personal space 
  • excessive or inappropriate level of interest shown in a member of staff or other visitor 
  • photographing, filming or recording staff or other visitors in the building without their express consent 
  • misuse, damage to or theft of property 
  • misuse of public network computers as set out in the Acceptable Use Agreement and use of personal devices to access, download, copy, forward, load or transmit any pornographic, explicitly sexual, violent, abusive, racist or other unlawful material
  • sharing library membership card and pin number with other people, including to allow people who are not Libraries Unlocked members to enter the library and use library services
