Libraries offer Early Years activities which develop key literacy and communication skills to help children prepare for the formal setting of the classroom.

Young children get the most out of school, and enjoy it more, if they are curious about learning, can co-operate with others and are confident in communicating.

Worcestershire libraries play a vital role in preparing children for school by sparking children's curiosity, fostering a love of learning and reading, nurturing relationships and developmental growth; all while aligning with National Curriculum objectives.  

An overwhelming 97% of teachers recommend that parents enrol their children with their local library to prepare for starting school, while 94% advise parents with children starting school in September to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge

By providing access to a wide range of age-appropriate reading materials, hosting high-quality family activities, and promoting a positive home learning environment, libraries have a significant impact at this major milestone in children’s lives.
