Background papers

Three new reports have been published to support the preparation of the LNRS:

The Worcestershire State of Nature Report 2023

Coming 5 years on from the publication of the 2018 Worcestershire Biodiversity Action Plan, this report sets out the threats and challenges facing nature in Worcestershire today, presents facts and statistics on the current status of locally important habitats and species, and celebrates some of the success stories and projects being delivered by conservation groups across the county.

The State of Worcestershire’s Grasslands

A collaborative project undertaken by Worcestershire County Council, Natural England and Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, this report compares data from the Worcestershire Grassland Inventory (surveys undertaken largely during the 1990s and 2000s) and the 2021 Worcestershire Habitat Inventory, to interpret the changes which have occurred in semi-natural grassland type, extent, protection, management and condition. It is the first phase of a more comprehensive review of Worcestershire’s important semi-natural grasslands.

Assessment of Floodplain Meadows in Worcestershire and their potential to store soil carbon

This report by the Floodplain Meadows Partnership outlines the potential for soil carbon storage through floodplain meadow restoration and management in Worcestershire.
