Before you start
If you fit the criteria and you wish to be considered under the low income part of the policy, you will need evidence of your qualifying benefit to upload:
- Income Support - latest benefit letter, dated within the last 12 months (mandatory)
- Income Based Job Seekers Allowance – latest benefit letter, dated within the last 12 months (mandatory)
- Free School Meals - latest benefit letter, dated within the last 12 months (non-mandatory). If this is not available we can check eligibility with the Free School Meals Team
- Maximum Working Tax Credit - current year Tax Credit Award letter, showing £0 deduction due to income on the Working Tax Credit calculation (usually page 4) (mandatory)
- Universal Credit - provided you have an annual net earned income of no more that £7,400 - last 3 UC statements showing the Take Home Pay figure (you may need to expand the basic statement to see this figure, by clicking on “Other Support you may get”)(mandatory)
- support under part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 – confirmation letter (mandatory)
- Child Tax Credit, with an annual income of less than £16,190 – current year Tax Credit Award showing income
- Guaranteed Pension Credit - latest confirmation statement (mandatory)
- Income-based Employment and Support Allowance – latest benefit letter (mandatory)
If you wish to be considered under the low income denominational part of the policy (attending your nearest religious Secondary or High school, on religious grounds and in receipt of one of the above low income benefits) you will also need your Baptism Certificate or a letter from your priest to upload.

Please note that the email address you provide in the application will be used for all correspondence regarding this application and subsequent communications, including requests for payments where necessary. Please ensure this is an email address that will be monitored regularly.
Current year applications
- while we deal with these as quickly as possible, it should be noted that it can take 20 working days to process
- you should be able to see your application on the application tracker 24 hours after submitting it
- we will not be liable for tickets purchased while waiting for an application to be processed within the 20 working day turnaround
Next year (September) applications
- we can accept applications for September from 1 March of the same year
- applications for September, received after 31 July are classed as late applications and we cannot guarantee transport will be arranged in time for the start of the Autumn term
- you will not be able to see any updates on the application tracker until the beginning of July; we are unable to provide any updates until this time
- we will not be liable for tickets purchased while waiting for an application to be processed if the application was received after 31 July (classed as late)
Reapplying for travel assistance
You do not need to reapply unless any of the following circumstances are applicable to you:
- you have moved house since your last application – please complete a change of address notification form
- you will be changing school since your last application – please complete a new application
- you will be moving into over 16 education – please complete a new application
- you will be starting a new course - please complete a new application
