Under 16 eligibility for SEND travel assistance

Check your eligibility for Special Education Needs and Disability travel assistance.

You will qualify for free SEND travel assistance if:

  • you live in Worcestershire
  • you are 4 years old or over at September 1st
  • you are attending the designated or nearest Educational Establishment for your home address
  • you live over the statutory walking distance from your designated or nearest Educational Establishment – 2 miles for pupils up to 8 years or 3 miles for pupils over 8 years, measured by the shortest available walking route

You may also qualify for free SEND travel assistance in one of these instances:

Low income

  • you live in Worcestershire
  • you can provide recent evidence of receipt of one of the following benefits:
    • Income Support
    • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
    • Free Educational Establishment Meals
    • maximum Working Tax Credit (no deduction due to income)
    • Universal Credit (Take Home Pay less than £7400 per annum)
  • you live between 2 and 3 miles from the designated or nearest Educational Establishment for your home address

Unsafe route

  • you live in Worcestershire
  • you are attending your designated or nearest Educational Establishment for your home address
  • you live under the 2 or 3 mile statutory walking distance from Educational Establishment, but the route is assessed as unavailable for walking, by Worcestershire County Council's Road Safety Officer

Educational establishment has been redesignated by the SEND team

  • you live in Worcestershire
  • your designated or nearest Educational Establishment did not have a place available for you when you applied and you have been allocated the next Educational Establishment with available spaces by the SEND Team (not just Parental Preference)
  • you live over the 2 or 3 mile statutory walking distance from Educational Establishment

Nursery

  • you live in Worcestershire
  • you are attending one of the supported SEND Nurseries:
    • Batchley Nursery
    • Chadsgrove Nursery
    • Fort Royal Nursery
    • Vale of Evesham Nursery
    • Wyre Forest Community Nursery
  • you can provide recent evidence of receipt of one of the following benefits:
    • Income Support
    • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
    • Free Educational Establishment Meals
    • maximum Working Tax Credit (no deduction due to income)
    • Universal Credit (Take Home Pay less than £7400 per annum)
  • you live over 2 miles statutory walking distance from Educational Establishment
