Whether you are growing crops, raising animals such as sheep, pigs, and cows, or fixing machinery, working in this industry is likely to mean you will be working outdoors all year round.

If the outdoor life is not for you, you could always look towards more environmental or scientific occupations in agriculture. For example, environmental consultants are employed to provide expert advice and assessment services to clients with the aim of minimising environmental damage.

If you are more science focused, geneticists complete essential scientific research to improve the agricultural sector. They find and develop useful traits in plants such as disease resistance, which can then be transferred into future crops.

This sector also completes important work in creating and designing outdoor spaces for the public, meaning you could also work to design and maintain historic gardens, country parks or botanic areas used for leisure purposes.
