Overview

There a few different names for this type of role, attendants, hosts, ushers that work in cinemas or entertainment theatres. This role is to help customers visiting places of entertainment.

Workplace

This would be working indoors of a small to large cinema or entertainment theatre. You would be based in the main foyer (reception area) and sometimes have to go into the main entertainment hall.

Working Hours

23 to 25 hours per week variable working shifts - evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Salary

Starting salary varies and would usually start at national minimum wage

Qualifications

Some GCSEs may be required it will depend on the employer as some will be more flexible. You can apply directly to vacancies advertised by theatres and cinemas. Experience of dealing with the public, for example in retail or hospitality, may give you an advantage though it's not always essential. You can sometimes find voluntary work with community theatres or cinemas which would help you gain access to this role.

You could also apply for an apprenticeship. If you have an EHCP you may be able to apply under the DfE exemption which allows the apprentice to use Entry level 3 English and Maths qualifications. The apprentice would have to be component enough to successfully achieve all other aspects of the apprenticeship requirements, become occupationally competent and achieve Entry Level 3 in English and Maths before the end of their apprenticeship.
