Electronics Engineering Technicians design, build and maintain electronic systems and components.
- Use CAD software to design printed circuit boards and wiring diagrams
- Research and develop new products
- Test prototypes and analyse results
- Find and fix faults in equipment
- Build and install electronic manufacturing control systems
- Set up maintenance schedules for equipment
Your working environment may be noisy. You could work in a workshop, in a laboratory, in a factory or in an office.
An Electronics Engineering Technician could work between 41 to 43 hours a week.
Starting salary: £21,000
Experienced salary: up to £37,000
You can do a foundation degree or higher national diploma in electrical and electronic engineering. You'll usually need 1 or 2 A levels, or equivalent, for a foundation degree or higher national diploma.
You could take a college course, which would teach you some of the skills needed for this job. Relevant courses include:
- Level 3 Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- T Level in Engineering, Manufacturing, Processing and Control
- Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Electronic Engineering or Electronic Systems Engineering
Entry requirements for these courses will differ.
You can get into this job through an engineering technician advanced apprenticeship.
You'll usually need 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including English and maths, for an advanced apprenticeship.
