Landfill

Worcestershire County Council only sends a small amount of its waste to landfill as it has an Energy Recovery Facility (EnviRecover) which burns the black bin waste to generate electricity.  For more information visit the Severn Waste website.

Worcestershire County Council monitors closed landfill sites for up to 20 years due to the leachate that is formed by the waste biodegrading over time.  Landfill sites are a source of methane and other greenhouse gases which is why keeping waste out of landfill is a priority for Worcestershire County Council.
