Overview

Assemblers make things in factories. These could be anything from computers to cars. Assemblers fit the parts together. Some assemblers fit all of the parts together to make a whole item. Others work in a team where each person in the team fits a different part.

  • Putting the item back on the conveyor belt to go to the next assembler
  • Using screwdrivers and other tools to fit parts
Workplace

Assemblers work in factories. Factories can be noisy.

Working Hours

Assemblers usually work between 37 and 40 hours a week. This could be shifts and include days, nights and weekends.

Salary

Starting salary: £16,000

Qualifications

You do not need to pass set school exams to become an assembler. Some employers may ask for GCSE’s others may be more flexible. You could also apply for an apprenticeship. If you have an EHCP you may be able to apply under the DfE exemption which allows the apprentice to use Entry level 3 English and Maths qualifications.

The apprentice would have to be component enough to successfully achieve all other aspects of the apprenticeship requirements, become occupationally competent and achieve Entry Level 3 in English and Maths before the end of their apprenticeship.
