Apply for an Approved Premises Licence

Details on how to apply for a licence for your venue.

Before you apply

Make sure your premises fits the eligibility criteria and you have information on the fees included, see: Eligibility and fees for information.

The licence fee is non-refundable once paid; therefore, you may wish to contact us before you make your application so that we can advise you about your premises.

You should inform us about:

  • what the premises is currently used for
  • what you plan to use it for
  • the number of ceremonies you propose to have each year

A pre inspection of your premises can be carried out for a fee of £75. This amount will be deducted from the fees payable when your completed application is submitted.

Apply

To apply, you will need to submit the following documents:

  • completed Approved Premises Application Form (see also the Application Guidance Information)
  • the required fee
  • current Fire Risk Assessment
  • a plan of the room(s) showing the location within the building
  • premises licence (if applicable)
  • other licences (e.g., for entertainment, alcohol) if applicable
  • written evidence from your local planning office confirming that no planning permission is needed for using the venue for marriages or civil partnerships

Please note: that you cannot take bookings or advertise the venue until you have been granted an Approved Premises Licence.
