Attendance and CME
The Education Engagement Team (Attendance and Children Missing Education) work alongside schools, settings, and external partners to promote the importance of education.
The Education Engagement Team delivers statutory functions on behalf of the Local Authority, seeking to ensure each child’s and young person’s right to education.
The team support any child or young person who is deemed to be a Child Missing Education (CME), who is not registered on a school roll or receiving a suitable education otherwise. The team also support schools in line with the Department for Education (DfE) “Working together to improve School Attendance” guidance.
All schools should be following the new guidance with effect from 19 August: Working together to improve school attendance (GOV.UK)

Schools and colleges in England must have regard to it when carrying out their duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. For the purposes of this guidance children includes everyone under the age of 18. This updated guidance applies from September 2023.
