A recent recruitment event, held in collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions, has had a huge impact for both employers and job seekers across the county.
The event, hosted at Worcester Job Centre Plus on Wednesday 25 June, welcomed over 400 attendees and showcased a wide range of career opportunities within the Council and beyond.
Representatives from the Council’s Reablement team were on hand to provide guidance, answer questions, and highlight the rewarding nature of working in this essential frontline service.
As a direct result of the event, 13 prospective candidates were interviewed by the Council this week. These interviews mark a significant step forward in strengthening the Council’s Reablement workforce. Reablement is a statutory service that plays a crucial role in supporting residents to regain independence after illness or hospital stays.
Kerry McCrossan, Assistant Director of Adult Social Care at Worcestershire County Council said: “This event was not only about recruitment. It was about raising awareness of the vital work we do, showcasing the Council as a supportive employer, and supporting local job seekers with the tools and information they need to succeed. Our reablement workers are amazing, providing care and support to people at what can be an extremely scary and emotional time.”
Councillor Sue Eacock, cabinet member for Adult Social Care at Worcestershire County Council said: “Recruiting reablement workers and adult social care staff is a priority for the Council. These roles are essential to delivering statutory care services, and hiring directly helps reduce reliance on costly agency staff. By growing our own workforce, we can provide tailored training, ensure continuity of care, and invest in long-term community support. The Council remains committed to supporting both residents and job seekers through initiatives like this, which not only fill critical vacancies but also help upskill the local workforce and connect people with meaningful employment.”
The event also featured participation from a wide range of local and national employers, including Airband, Lidl, Muller, Citizens Advice, Roadchef, West Mercia Police, and the Ministry of Justice.
Feedback from exhibitors was overwhelmingly positive, with comments such as “Excellent!”, “Great buzz and atmosphere,” and “Busy all day” reflecting the energy and engagement of the event.
