Explore the Past is Worcestershire County Council's Archive & Archaeology Service.

And you will have no need for visiting ghosts, as our Archive & Archaeology Service can help you understand more than Worcestershire’s Christmas past and present!

Each year our team uncovers plenty of hidden treasures, and 2023 has been no exception, with some particularly notable Roman archaeological finds:

  • roof tile with signature mark
  • locally produced pot base
  • decorated Samian ware from Gaul
  • copper alloy brooch

2023 has also seen success for our Roots in Time project. The project won the Archaeology and Sustainability Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award at this year’s Archaeological Achievement Awards.

Roots in Time is a National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council project, that explores and shares the archaeology of a new woodland at Norton, near Evesham.
