In celebration of World Book Night, Worcestershire County Council's Library Service is gifting 350 Easy Read copies of Kit de Waal's book, "Without Warning and Only Sometimes."

It will be a big help to those in Worcestershire who don't always have access to books or aren't used to reading regularly if these books are made available to them.

The books have made their way to locations across the county, including refugee community groups, Cranstoun, Action for Children and Redditch Nightstop as part of Worcestershire Libraries’ service commitment to promoting literacy and fostering a love for reading.

Recipients of the books have been encouraged to take part in the #ReadingHour from 7pm on 23 April and be part of the nationwide celebration of reading on World Book Night.

Hannah Perrott, Assistant Director for Communities at Worcestershire County Council, said: “Books have the power to transform lives, and we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of reading. By distributing these books to people who have more limited access to books, we hope to inspire a love for reading."

World Book Night, which sees the library service partner with the Reading Agency, aims to provide access to engaging and enjoyable books to individuals who may face barriers to reading, such as refugees and immigrants who are building a new life in the community and English language learners looking to improve their language skills.

The Reading Agency is a leading UK charity that promotes the importance of reading for pleasure and supports public libraries and their reading initiatives.

The partnership between Worcestershire Libraries and The Reading Agency reflects their shared commitment to making books accessible to all and promoting reading as a valuable and enriching activity that can have a positive impact on individuals and communities.
