Worcestershire has started a new project called PINS – Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools.

The aim is to make schools more inclusive, welcoming and supportive for neurodiverse children.

Who's involved?

  • 32 first, primary and middle schools in Worcestershire are taking part (full list below)
  • PINS is funded by NHS England, in partnership with the Department of Education, Department for Health and Social Care and the National Network of Parent Carer Forums
  • Worcestershire County Council, NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire and Worcestershire Parent Carer Forum are equal partners - planning and delivering the training to schools together

What will schools do?

  • school leaders, governors and parent carers are looking at what strengths already exist within their school and an area for development
  • from October to January, school staff will join training and workshops on topics including how leaders can create a culture of inclusion, how to make changes in the classroom and how to establish and strengthen parental engagement and pupil voice
  • they will also look at other places across the county that already show good practice, to learn from them

This photo was taken at a "Developing a shared language for Neurodiversity" workshop that took place 16 September. The event was hosted by both Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Care Board (NHS) and Worcestershire County Council and attended by colleagues from within the county council, NHS and the parent carer forum.

We heard feedback from our coproduction officers who had gathered the views of our young people, and Worcestershire Parent Carer Forum who shared parental views. We look forward to sharing this work at the PINS launch on 25 September.
