Worcestershire is celebrating national recognition as Worcester Woods Country Park, Waseley Hills Country Park, and St Wulstan’s Local Nature Reserve have once again been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award, the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.
This marks over a decade of consecutive wins for these much-loved sites, which continue to be recognised as among the best in the country. The Green Flag Award celebrates well-managed parks and green spaces that meet the highest environmental standards, are beautifully maintained, and offer excellent visitor facilities.
Managed by Worcestershire County Council, the continued success of Worcestershire’s parks is a direct result of the hard work, care, and dedication of the staff and volunteers who oversee and maintain them year-round.
Councillor Ian Cresswell, Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities at Worcestershire County Council, said:
“I’m absolutely delighted that three of our countryside sites have once again received Green Flag Awards. These parks play a vital role in the health, wellbeing, and happiness of our communities – providing stunning, accessible green spaces for everyone to enjoy.
This achievement is down to the exceptional efforts of our staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to look after our landscapes. Their passion, commitment, and care are the real success story behind these awards, and I want to thank them for everything they do to make Worcestershire’s countryside so special.”
Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved with the Worcestershire sites, who have worked tirelessly to ensure that it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.
“Quality parks and green spaces like Worcester Woods Country Park, Waseley Hills Country Park, and St Wulstan’s Local Nature Reserve make the country a healthier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.
“Crucially, the sites in Worcestershire are vital green spaces for communities in the County] to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis it is a free and safe space for families to socialise. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, sets the benchmark for the management of green spaces across the UK and beyond.
