Tesco Kidderminster has donated crates of free school uniform for families in Worcestershire via the Worcestershire Fostering team.
Foster carers from across the county were pleased to receive the generous donation from Tesco, who delivered over 20 crates of school uniforms to Worcestershire County Council’s Foster Carer Conference.
This annual event, held on Tuesday, 19th November, at Worcestershire County Cricket Club, celebrates and thanks foster carers for their ongoing dedication to supporting looked after children across the county.
The initiative was sparked by Adele Green, one of Worcestershire Fostering’s carers and the Community Champion for Tesco in Kidderminster.
Recognising the potential value of the surplus uniforms, Adele approached Tesco to ask if the items could be donated via Worcestershire Fostering to share with local families. Tesco were happy to respond, and Adele and her colleague Rachel Mills delivered a wide range of school uniforms to the conference in various sizes and styles.
Foster carers attending the conference were given the opportunity to take uniform to distribute to their local schools, ensuring the donation reached as many families as possible. The remaining uniforms will be made available to local families through Family Hubs and local charities.
Steve Neeson, Store Manager at Kidderminster Tesco said: “We are delighted to be able to support children across the local area with our surplus school uniform. Hopefully it will go some way to helping the education of our young people.”
Councillor Steve Mackay, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Children and Families said: "We want to say a huge thank you to Tesco for their generous donation and thank Adele for making this happen for families in Worcestershire. We’re also really grateful to the carers and members of our fostering team who have helped distribute the uniforms to local schools, community groups and charities. This contribution will make a significant difference to many families across the county."
