World and Olympic medallist Steve Cram is joining forces with Worcestershire County Council and Wythall Community Association for an exciting new running event this Summer.

The Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run takes place on Sunday 23 June at 10 am at Wythall Park and includes a 5k, 10k and Families on Track relay race.

Steve Cram and the Events of the North team will be there on the day seeing runners over the finish line. He said:

“I’m looking forward to being there on Sunday 23 June. With a great running route on traffic-free roads, as well as activities for families and non-runners it should be a great day for Worcestershire.”

Councillor Adam Kent, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Communication, and County Councillor for Wythall said: “It’s a real coup for us to be working with Steve, a world-class sportsman, bringing this innovative and exciting event to Worcestershire, creating new opportunities for individuals and families to have fun and live active lives.

This event is for all not just experienced runners, we want to welcome families and residents of all abilities including those who have never run before and may have just or are about to embark on local Couch to 5K programmes. The event is designed to be a festival of fitness and fun!”

Councillor Karen May, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council, said: “I’m really pleased we’ve been able to work with Steve and add another running event to the county’s running calendar. Bringing people together to get active not only benefits physical health but helps us meet new people and feel part of our community.  I’d like to thank our district council colleagues and local leisure providers for their hard work in helping us to offer Couch to 5k programmes to help residents get ready for the event. ”

Bromsgrove District Councillor and Chair of the Wythall Community Association Sue Baxter added: “Wythall Community Association is thrilled to host the Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run and it’s fantastic that proceeds from the event will come back into the Association for future initiatives”.

Alongside the event, the Wythall Community Association are holding a fun day with food stalls, entertainment and taster sessions of other activities on offer at the park.
