For the third time in 2023, the Public Health team at Worcestershire County Council has been commended in an award scheme.

The most recent success comes in the Market Research Society Awards, for research on the impact of COVID-19 on our Health & Social Care workforce.

The research was undertaken in collaboration with the “Thinks Insight and Strategy” research group, with the aim of helping to shape support for health and care professionals in the future.

The study provided a valuable insight into the lives of participants throughout the pandemic, working in a range of roles, including front-line acute settings, primary care and voluntary and community services in Worcestershire.

The research also explored the longer term effects of the pandemic and the challenges that professionals continue to face.

As part of the project, the research team spoke to a variety of people working in the healthcare sector in the county to capture their stories during the pandemic. The project was brought to life in an innovative animation that shone a light on the experiences and challenges faced by health and care workers across the county.

Councillor Karen May, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council said: “I’m really proud of our Public Health Team for their innovative approach to this piece of work and for getting the recognition they deserve. The research will be enormously valuable in shaping support to workers in this sector in the future. It has also provided a platform to start the very important and much needed conversations which enable those involved to reflect on their experiences, and the impacts it has had on them in both the shorter and longer term.

“In the video below you will hear the views of a variety of people in a range of roles. They open up about how the pandemic affected them and how they are taking the lessons learned forward as they continue to plan for the future.”

The video can be watched in full, on the Worcestershire County Council YouTube Channel.

This is the third time, the Public Health Team has received recognition for its recent work.

The ‘We’re In Your Corner’ project aimed at raising awareness of mental health support was a finalist in the November Chartered Institute of Public Relations Midland Pride Awards and ‘Now We’re Talking’ which also raises awareness of mental health support, won an accolade at the recent UK Public Health Registers Awards in October.
