Major improvement works in the Pershore area have taken a big step forward over recent weeks, with the installation of a new bridge crossing over the railway.

The works, which are taking place as part of Worcestershire County Council’s scheme to construct the Pershore Northern Link Road, have taken place under a number of closures of the railway line, to install the new bridge beams and construct the bridge deck.

Over the coming weeks, works will continue on the new bridge and resurfacing works are set to get underway in mid-June.

Once complete, the new Pershore Northern Link Road will provide a link between the A44/B4083 and B4083 Wyre Road roundabouts north of Pershore.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills, said: “The works on the scheme are progressing really well and it’s great to now see the new bridge in place over the railway line.

“The bridge is a key factor to completing the Pershore Northern Link Road, which alongside other works carried out as part of the wider improvement scheme, will help to tackle congestion, improve journey time reliability and support economic growth and development in the area.”

The process of installing the bridge has been captured on a time-lapse camera and the footage will be available soon on the dedicated project page on the County Council Website.

These works are part of the wider Pershore Infrastructure Improvements Scheme, which aims to reduce congestion, improve traffic links and enhance cycling and walking routes, in and around the Pershore area. As part of this scheme, works are also ongoing on Wyre Road on the construction of a new cycle/footway, as well as the installation of a new kerb line, enhanced drainage and additional street lighting.

Works on the overall scheme are set for completion this summer.
