Improvement works to tackle congestion at Kidderminster’s Hoobrook Roundabout are now operating.

The junction now includes additional lanes and signalisation on the three main arms of the roundabout to help improve the flow of traffic up to and around the roundabout.

Additional works have also taken place to reconfigure the circulation of vehicles around the roundabout as well as the splitter islands at each junction.

As part of the project, some footways in the area have been widened and an upgraded crossing has been installed on Chester Road South.

Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, Councillor Alan Amos, said: “It’s great that these improvements are now complete, and we’re already receiving feedback about the positive impact the new layout is having on the flow of traffic at the junction.

“These works will help improve traffic flow in the Hoobrook area and I’d like to thank the public for their patience whilst the works took place.

“Relieving congestion across Worcestershire remains one of our priorities and this is another example of our commitment to improving the county’s roads.”

This scheme has been part funded by the Government’s Getting Building Fund with £1.3million investment, via the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership. The Getting Building Fund aims to boost economic growth, and fuel local recovery and job creation.

Gary Woodman, Chief Executive of the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “The Worcestershire LEP is pleased to support this project as part of our Getting Building Fund investment into the county. Easing congestion is a crucial aspect to powering the county’s economic growth as it allows for easier and more reliable journeys for businesses, residents and visitors alike.

“It is great to see this project has now been completed as it brings us a step closer to achieving our vision for the county of a connected, creative, dynamic economy for all.”

Hoobrook is a busy roundabout providing connectivity between the A442 Worcester Road, A449 Chester Road South, A449 Worcester Road and Wilden Lane, which has a history of congestion at both morning and afternoon peak times. Improvements have taken place, as part of Worcestershire County Council’s multi million pound programme of works to relieve congestion hot spots across the county.
