The Ready Steady Worcestershire Summer Holiday Activities Programme is well underway in Wyre Forest.

One of the providers in this district is The World Outside Kindergarten.

Their site is based in the grounds of Baxter College and is taking children back to nature with its wide range of fun activities and opportunities based on the ethos of Forest School.

The kindergarten is situated within the woodland of the college and this has really influenced the activities available to children who are attending.

Within the woodland, the Children have been able to play games such as hide and seek and learn valuable skills such as fire lighting and cooking on the campfire.

Wyre Forest’s next generation of Robin Hood’s have been also been learning how to make bows and arrows and use tools to make keyrings and wood craft.

When it all gets too much, there’s always a den to crawl into as the children have been busy learning how to make dens.

Everyone is welcome on site as Guinea Pigs and Chicks have also been there to see all the action for themselves.

Sandra Hill, a Forest School leader is running the programme on the site.

She said: “Following the opening of the kindergarten on the site in June, it is lovely to see the site we have developed come alive as it is used to its full potential. The children are learning lots of new skills, gaining knowledge about their environment and also we are seeing a huge difference in their resilience and perseverance as we follow the principles of forest school.”

Councillor Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member for Education said: “It’s fantastic to be able to see the Ready Steady Worcestershire programme now up and running, and allowing children to learn new skills and have new experiences during their summer break, whilst staying locally in Worcestershire. I look forward to hearing more stories from the providers as the summer holidays continue.”

The Summer Holiday Activities Programme is aimed at children aged between 5 to 15 with something for everyone!

This initiative is part of the wider Holiday Activities and Food programme, a government funded scheme to make Summer Activities and Food available to all families.
