Have your say as Mineral Local Plan progresses

Residents are being encouraged to have their say as the county’s Mineral Local Plan reaches the final stages of development.

Independent Planning Inspectors are examining the plan to check whether it meets legal and national policy requirements.

Residents are now being asked to comment on proposed modifications to the plan as part of the ongoing examination. They can also comment on changes to the accompanying Policies Map and on formal assessments of the proposed modifications, but it is not an opportunity to comment on other issues in the plan as a whole.

The consultation will run from today, Monday 2 August 2021 to 5pm on Monday 13 September 2021.

This consultation may be more limited than at other stages in developing the plan, but consultation comments from earlier stages will also be taken into account by the Inspectors to inform their final report.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said: “The current minerals plan used in Worcestershire dates back to 1997, so developing this new plan is of great importance to the county. It’s really important that have residents have their say on the key points of this consultation period.”

Once the Inspectors’ report is received, Full Council will discuss the report and formally decide whether to adopt the Minerals Local Plan as part of the official Development Plan for Worcestershire.

This would work alongside the Waste Core Strategy and the City, Borough and District Councils’ Local Plans.
