Worcestershire County Council have welcomed news of a £6.2 million investment for new flood defences in Bewdley.
The new permanent structure will be built on Beales corner in a project managed by the Environment Agency.
There will also be a further £4.5 million invested in natural flood management techniques across the Severn Valley.
Councillor Tony Miller, cabinet member with responsibility for Environment at Worcestershire County Council said: “The funding of permanent flood defences to protect Beales Corner in Bewdley is extremely welcome. We have seen over the past couple of years the devastating effects that flooding has had on the residents of Bewdley, particularly those on Beales Corner. This investment will protect homes and businesses from the distress that flooding can bring and help bring much needed piece of mind to those residents.
“It’s also fantastic to see that investment will be made to create natural flood management within the Severn Valley. This is a great way to help alleviate flooding naturally whilst supporting the existing environment.”
The County Council committed £500,000 towards earlier this year towards a flood alleviation scheme in Bewdley.
This was discussed as part of this year’s budget at Full Council ahead of the budget being approved.
