Council Leader visits Bewdley to meet those involved in the flooding response

The visit comes after the severe ‘danger to life’ flood warning was placed on Wribbenhall, Bewdley, and water breached temporary barriers at Beales Corner.

In total, around 40 homes have been evacuated and Bewdley Bridge remains closed to all means of transport.

Councillor Geraghty met with partners including the Emergency Services, as well as Flood Resilience campaigner, Mary Long- Dhonau OBE to discuss the impact of the floods. Councillor Geraghty also met with Pastor Steve Robinson and volunteers at Elim Riverside Church, in Dog Lane who have provided a base and refreshments to those working on the scene.

Councillor Geraghty said: “This has once again been a huge multi agency response and enormous effort from our staff at the county council and partners.  

“I want to thank all of those involved in responding to the significant events of the last few days here in Bewdley.

“I would also like to extend my thanks to the communities across Worcestershire hit by floods for their response under incredibly difficult circumstances. I was pleased to see first hand the great sense of community spirit in Bewdley and the community pulling together for the second time in two years, to deal with the devastating consequences of flooding.

“We will continue to engage with the Environment Agency to move forward with permanent defences for Beales Corner.”

Flood waters in Bewdley peaked today (Feb 23) at 5.32metre.

A free pedestrian shuttle bus is running up to 6pm taking residents between All Saints Church, Wribbenhall and Load Street, in Bewdley.
