Are you a Parent Governor of one of the Council’s maintained schools? Would you like to share the views of parents with Worcestershire County Council?

Worcestershire County Council is seeking two parent governor representatives.

The Council needs one to represent the county’s parents with children at Primary School and one to represent parents with children at Secondary School.

Parent Governor representatives are appointed to be a non-political voice for parents in Worcestershire and attend committee meetings of two of the County Council overview and scrutiny committees dealing with education.

Nominations need to be received by the County Council by 12 noon on Friday 11 June and the election count will take place on Monday 5 July.

Councillor Tom Wells, Chairman of Overview and Scrutiny Performance Board, said: “Parent Governors play a key role in ensuring our school communities across Worcestershire have their say. I’d like to thank our current parent governors across the county for their hard work and dedication, and I would encourage parent governors who would like to take the next step and become a representative, to look on the website more or contact our overview and scrutiny team.”

To be eligible to stand, you must be a parent governor at a school maintained by the County Council and have a child at one of the Council's schools. Unfortunately, you’re not eligible to stand if you are:

  • an employee of Worcestershire County Council
  • an employee of a school maintained by the County Council (including teachers, non-teaching and other staff), or
  • a Councillor of any Local Authority

You can only stand for election for the phase (Primary or Secondary) in which you serve as a Parent Governor.

Your child does not have to be at the same school at which you are a parent governor. Although not ideal, it does not matter if you only have a very short time left to serve as a parent governor, or if all your children will have left school very soon after the election.

Whilst there is no salary, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. Parent Governor representatives are elected every four years.
