Clean Hands, Safe Hands, is the latest campaign being launched by Public Health in Worcestershire, on Global Handwashing Day (Saturday 15 October).

As we move into the winter months it’s important to reduce germs being passed on to others.

While alcohol or antibacterial hand sanitisers are a convenient and popular choice, what most people don’t know is that they are NOT an effective protection against the common sickness bug, norovirus.

Washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water often during the day, then drying them properly is one of the best ways to keep you and your family safe from infectious diseases.

Councillor Karen May, Worcestershire County Council's cabinet member for health and wellbeing said: “Our fantastic new campaign, ‘Clean Hands Safe Hands highlights how important handwashing is.

“Washing our hands often with soap and water, then drying them properly, is a really simple and effective way to prevent germs that could make us poorly.

“Don’t forget to wash your hands throughout the day. Together, if we all follow good hand hygiene, we can help reduce the spread of infections.”

Global Handwashing Day raises awareness of the importance of handwashing and encourages action to enable people across the world to have good handwashing behaviours.

Look out for new posters and adverts in Worcestershire reminding us to wash our hands with soap and water.
