The purpose of a pedestrian barrier is to guide pedestrians where there is a potential for conflict between pedestrians and vehicles.

The purpose of a pedestrian barrier is to guide pedestrians where there is a potential for conflict between pedestrians and vehicles. Short stretches of barriers are commonly placed outside the gates of primary schools and nurseries, to contain groups of pedestrians before they take their route.

Requests for the removal or alternation of barriers will also be considered if they are deemed to impact accessibility for wheelchair/ mobility scooter and pushchair users.


Before you start

  • please note that you will be asked to answer qualifying questions which will determine the feasibility of your request, you will also be asked to provide any relevant information and mark the required location on an interactive map
  • if you would like to provide any additional information or supporting evidence such as photographs or maps there will be an opportunity to upload documents at the end of the online form
  • once you have submitted your request the Minor Infrastructure Projects Team will respond to you within 10 working days
