Unlocking the Past

This project has created internet resources and hosted events which tell the story of human occupation in Worcestershire from prehistoric times onwards. There is an e-gallery, reviews of events and school teaching resources.

An Iron Age Settlement site at Blackstone.

WHEAS re-visits excavations carried out in the 1970s at Blackstone, near Bewdley in North Worcestershire.

In 1957 a fascinating Iron Age Settlement was discovered by aerial photography, in the form of a double-ditched promontory enclosure overlooking the River Severn at Blackstone, near Bewdley.

River Severn Bankside Survey

Another project made possible by the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund.

In 2007-8 a survey of archaeological remains along the Severn's banks, from Worcester to Tewkesbury, revealed details of industry and trade from the late prehistoric period onwards. Read on  (199.81 KB)
