Areas of Highest Need

In late 2008, the Worcestershire Partnership agreed a strategic approach to delivering the Local Area Agreement (LAA) in the most deprived parts of the county, using an element of the LAA Performance Reward Grant to pump-prime activity.

£3 million was originally allocated to the Areas of Highest Need (AOHN) initiative, split equally between each district (i.e. £500,000 per district Local Strategic Partnership). This was later cut by 20% due to public financial pressures.

In 2011 each project also received an additional £50,000 of funding from the Public Health department of NHS Worcestershire to help strengthen the capacity with the AOHN projects to address health needs.

Individual projects have also obtained match funding or pooled resources and been successful in levering in additional monies from other funding sources to support delivery of activities in their AOHN.
