Two Worcestershire schools will become Centres of Excellence for Teacher Training

Two Worcestershire schools have been selected to become centres of excellence for teacher and leadership training and development.

Prince Henry's High School in Evesham and Haybridge High School and Sixth Form in Hagley will become local centres of excellence for teacher and leadership training later this year. 

As a centre of excellence, Prince Henry's High School will provide career development support to around 250 schools in the Worcestershire districts of Malvern Hills, Worcester, Wychavon and Wyre Forest as well as all of Herefordshire.

The county’s other two districts, Redditch and Bromsgrove will be served by Tudor Grange Academy in Solihull. 

Tudor Grange Academies Trust is well known to the county’s school community and has schools in Worcester and Redditch.

Haybridge High School and Sixth Form, which is part of The Four Stones Multi Academy Trust, will provide career development support to teachers and leaders in the Dudley and Sandwell areas.

Councillor Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “I’m really pleased that two Worcestershire schools have been selected to become local centres of excellence for teacher and leadership training and that other schools will be supported by an existing partner Multi Academy Trust. One of our top priorities within Education is ensuring we’re doing all we can to help every member of the school community to reach their full potential. 

The hubs will provide high-quality professional development to teachers and leaders at all stages of their career, and play a key role in helping to build up trainee teachers as they enter the workforce.”

Earlier this week, The Department for Education announced 81 teaching school hubs will be created across England. 

High performing schools, rated good or outstanding from across England were invited to apply to become teaching school hubs last Autumn.

They have now selected 81 new successful teaching school hubs to join the existing 6 test and learn hubs.

The new centres of excellence are expected to be operational and helping schools from September 2021 and are set to run for an initial three years.
