Worcestershire County Council’s Public Health Team are finalists in the UK National GO Awards.

The team have been shortlisted in the 'COVID-19 Response and Recovery - Local Government' category, for a system called Nimrod.

‘Nimrod’ is a cloud based system, and was developed internally as part of Worcestershire’s COVID-19 local outbreak management plan.

It helped the public health team and partners to jointly record, track and manage COVID-19 cases and outbreaks, to best inform the county’s residents.
The system has received high praise and has already won awards this year.

The County Council were announced Silver Winners in the Digital and Technology Category in the Public Sector Transformation Awards 2022 back in March, thanks to the systems development.

Prior to Nimrod, Excel spreadsheets were used to keep track of outbreaks across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, but it was clear that this was only a temporary solution, and a more robust long-term solution was required.

Nimrod is now an integral part in the day to day running of the Local Outbreak Response Team and public health response to the management of COVID-19 across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Matthew Fung, Public Health Consultant at Worcestershire County Council said: "Public Health worked closely with the digital team to rapidly develop a cloud-based system called Nimrod at the height of the pandemic. The system was rolled out incredibly quickly, and has become the backbone of documenting, and helping to control COVID-19 outbreaks across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

"I am extremely grateful for the skill and professionalism of all who have been involved in devising, developing, testing and using Nimrod to help control COVID-19 throughout the pandemic."

The developers added: "'Developing Nimrod required an agile and innovative approach in order for us to support Public Health throughout the constantly evolving pandemic. Great teamwork was key to the successful delivery of this project!'

The UK National GO Awards celebrate the very best procurement achievements from across the UK’s public, private and third sector organisations.

The award winners will be announced at a glamorous ceremony in Birmingham on May 25, 2022.
