Full Steam Ahead for Improvements to Droitwich Spa Train Station

Published Friday, 7th January 2022

A range of organisations including Worcestershire County Council are working together to improve rail users’ experience of Droitwich Spa Train Station.

Organisations including Wychavon District Council, Droitwich Town Council, West Midlands Trains and The Friends of Droitwich Station, along with the County Council, are carrying out a number of improvements at the station and on key routes into the town.

Works include improved pedestrian signage between the station and the town centre, enhancements to the underpass beneath Ombersley Way, improved highway signage, the removal of vegetation from footways and signs, improved cycle parking, clearer pedestrian routes though the station, the installation of an additional rail ticket machine, improved lighting and more attractive planting around the station facilities.

Some of the work has already been completed and the rest of the improvements are set to take place over the next two years.

Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, Councillor Alan Amos, said: “It is essential that the residents of Droitwich and nearby communities have access to a safe and attractive station whether they are using the train to get to work, go to school, go shopping or meet friends. It’s also important to remember that the station is a gateway to the town for visitors, too, and first impressions are important.

“I am delighted that all of the organisations who have a part to play in improving the rail users’ experience of the station have joined forces to make this happen.”

Further improvements to the station are planned for the future including the provision of additional parking and improved access for pedestrians and cyclists.
