In line with government guidance, Worcestershire libraries are relaxing Covid restrictions this week; getting one step closer to normal service provision.
Customers can now enjoy a more relaxed browsing experience following the return of seating to library spaces and the lifting of browsing time restrictions, except during very busy periods.
The number of people in libraries will still be managed and monitored and customers are requested to continue to pre-book computer sessions and desk spaces.
Small social connecting groups of up to 6 people such as reading groups and Knit and Natter can once again meet in library spaces. Those interested in booking free community space at their local library can call the Customer Contact Centre on 01905 822722 to enquire further.
The re-introduction of face to face, one to one sessions in libraries, offering valuable support with digital skills, employability and job seeking, and business advice is planned over the coming few weeks. In addition, where space and ventilation allows, meeting rooms will be available to hire.
There’s good news for parents and carers of children, 5 years and under, with the return of free Storytime sessions at libraries across Worcestershire – tickets are available now and need to be booked in advance via the Worcestershire Libraries Eventbrite page http://worcestershirelibraries.eventbrite.com/
Normal borrowing periods and standard fees and charges have been reintroduced. From 7 June libraries are no longer required to quarantine returned items which will vastly improve stock levels and reservation waiting times.
Customers can reserve and renew books as normal online or by calling the customer contact centre on 01905 822722. A new online payment system makes it easier than ever for customers to pay outstanding fees and fines.
Councillor Matt Dormer, Cabinet Member for Communities said: “Libraries provide free and accessible community space for Worcestershire residents to enjoy. The gradual easing of Covid restrictions allows for a more leisurely experience for customers visiting their local library and the reintroduction of valuable face to face social connecting activity is a great step forward.
