One week left to have your say on shaping the requirements for the city’s new secondary school

There is one week left for residents to share their views about a new secondary school for Worcester.

A public engagement has been live since the middle of May to find out what matters most to residents in the delivery of a new school for their children. This represents the first opportunity for you to have your say in shaping the new school.

In February this year, Cabinet approved the creation of a new 600 place secondary school, in Worcester, to meet the increased demand for school places in the city over recent years.

Councillor Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Education said: “We’ve had a fantastic response so far from our residents on this consultation looking ahead to this exciting project. We really want to hear the views of parents, guardians, carers and children and young people about what is important to you as planning for the future build continues.”

Over the past five years, we have invested in developing facilities at the existing secondary schools in Worcester. The level of additional places required now provides us with an opportunity to consider the delivery of a new school.

The location of the site of any new school will consider several factors including reducing pressure from oversubscribed schools and helping parents to fulfil their preference in choice of secondary school for their children.”

The provision of a new school will ensure children can access a secondary school place within their local community in a growing City.

The need for a new school in Worcester responds to the growth of housing developments around the City and improves choice and access for families.

The school will be delivered by Worcestershire County Council and will then be run by an Academy Sponsor.

The process to appoint the Academy Sponsor will run in the Autumn Term of 2021 and will follow the Department for Education (DfE) Free School Presumption Process.

Your responses to the survey will help Worcestershire County Council to shape the school design specification and outline in detail what is expected from an Academy in applying to run this school.

Please submit your response online via the dedicated new secondary school pages of the County Council website by Friday 11th June.
