Worcestershire libraries will be able to offer more face to face services from 17 May

Published Friday, 14th May 2021

Worcestershire libraries will be able to provide more face to face services to support customers in the next phase of the roadmap out of lockdown.

The new guidance that allows up to 6 people to meet indoors will mean small social connecting groups such as reading groups and Knit and Natter can once again meet in library spaces.

One to one sessions that provide valuable support with digital skills, employability and job seeking, and provide business advice and information will also be introduced over coming weeks.

Libraries will remain open for browsing and borrowing, reserve and collect, pre-bookable computer bookings and desk space bookings for work and study purposes.

Pre-bookable computer sessions are available for up to 1 hr 50 minutes each day and those who book a PC will be able to access printing facilities.

Socially distanced study desks can be pre-booked for up to 4 hours each day; perfect for those seeking a quiet space away from home to focus on research, work or their studies.

Socially distanced Storytimes for pre-school children were recently introduced at The Hive in Worcester and these will be extended to other libraries across the county in the near future as will outdoor story events where space permits.

Online events and Storytimes in libraries can be booked via the Worcestershire Libraries Eventbrite page -

Hannah Perrott, Assistant Director for Communities, said: “We’re delighted that people will be able to use free community spaces in libraries to stay connected with each other in small groups. The one to one support sessions that help individuals improve their digital and employability skills are invaluable and will be a welcome return to libraries, as we continue on the road out of lockdown.”

Existing COVID restrictions such as social distancing, face masks, hand sanitiser and book quarantining will remain in place. As a result of continuing social distancing restrictions, the number of customers allowed into a library at any one time will continue to be monitored and all new group activity and one to one support sessions will operate on a pre-bookable basis. Further details will be published on the libraries website when available.
