Green Deal scam letters hit Worcestershire

Published Thursday, 6th May 2021

Worcestershire Trading Standards are warning residents to be wary of scams targeting homeowners about the Green Homes Grant scheme, which closed on 31st March 2021.

Official-looking letters have been circulated to residents across the county, claiming entitlement to a new ECO Energy Grant.

This is direct marketing from a company and has not been sent by the Government despite their official look.

Simon Wilkes, Head of Regulatory Services, said: “Residents should remain cautious if they receive any unsolicited letters, phone calls, texts, emails or doorstep calls from any traders assuring them that they or their property will be eligible for the scheme at present.

“Our advice is simply not to buy or commit to anything based on a cold call. We would also urge residents with elderly or vulnerable family or neighbours to make them aware of the dangers too.”

There is lots of official support out there to help residents improve their homes' energy efficiency.

Act on Energy has been working with the County Council through their Warmer Worcestershire project.
