Worcestershire Libraries supports local residents to complete census survey

Published Friday, 5th March 2021

Have you received a census pack and you’re not sure how to respond? Worcestershire Libraries are here to help.

The county’s library service will be running two online Census Engagement Sessions via Zoom on 16 and 17 March.

The engagement sessions will be led by Tony Hutchings, Census Engagement Manager for Worcestershire, from the Office for National Statistics. He will explain more about the census, how to complete it, how information is captured and will be on hand to answer any additional queries residents may have.

The online sessions will take place via zoom on Tuesday 16 March at 2pm and Wednesday 17 March at 11am. Tickets for the sessions can be booked via the Worcestershire Libraries Eventbrite page

UK residents are required by law to complete the survey by Sunday 21 March 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The census is a survey that happens every 10 years and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.

By taking part in the census, you’ll help make sure your community gets the services it needs. Answers to the census questions will help organisations make decisions on planning and funding public services in your area, including transport, education and healthcare.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Communities, said: “The Census Engagement sessions are a fantastic opportunity for people across Worcestershire to get the help and support they need to complete the 2021 census. The information provided on the census is vital to ensure we meet the future needs of local communities, so I’d encourage everyone who needs support to reach out and access it. We want to help you, so you can help us shape the future of our wonderful local communities across the county.”

Help is also on hand from the library service for those who lack the digital skills, confidence or access to IT in order to join the online engagement sessions or complete the census online.

Library Digital Champion volunteers provide a digital call back service and offer 1:1 ‘Introduction to zoom’ sessions and libraries remain open throughout lockdown to provide essential digital access for customers without computers or internet at home. Pre-bookable computer sessions are available at all libraries across the county. To find out more about the digital support available or how to book a computer session at your local library call the customer contact centre on 01905 822722 or visit Worcestershire Libraries website.
