Worcestershire celebrates Christmas safely

Christmas will be a little different this year but there are still plenty of ways to celebrate safely, give and support one another.

One of the five ways to wellbeing is to ‘give’.

Participation in social and community life can have a very positive impact on  mental wellbeing, and Public Health Worcestershire is encouraging those who can, to do just that this Christmas.

Public Health Worcestershire is launching its 2020 advent calendar, filled with ideas to help others, support local business, have fun and enjoy a wonderful Worcestershire Christmas, safely.

Each day there’ll be tips, fun, quizzes and ideas to help you celebrate and support your community too.

Dr Kathryn Cobain, Director of Public Health Worcestershire said: “Christmas will be far from typical for many of us this year and the preparations too are going to feel different. But that doesn’t mean we can’t find ways to celebrate safely, enjoy the season and support one another.

“This is why we have launched a Public Health Worcestershire advent calendar. Not only will it include ways you can give to others, but also advice on how can support local businesses, shop locally and keep safe. We’ll also be giving out downloadable items such as quizzes, colouring in sheets and more for families to enjoy at home this Christmas. If we all remember to follow the guidance, and look out for one another, Christmas can still be very special.”

Councillor John Smith, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Health and Wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council said: “Looking after ourselves and our mental well-being is important any time of year, but after a difficult year, we want to help people improve their wellbeing while giving to others.

“The advent calendar will feature opportunities and suggestions for you to give a little extra kindness this Christmas to loved ones and those who are lonely. If you love quizzes, we will be providing those for you to do over Zoom or Skype calls too. We hope it inspires you.“
