Worcestershire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership are proudly supporting a campaign to ensure that every last surviving veteran of World War II receives an extra present this Christmas.

The Not Forgotten charity has made it their mission to ensure the approximate 5,000 surviving veterans from World War Two, living in the UK are found and receive thanks this Winter.

‘The Not Forgotten’ charity is sending gift boxes as a token of appreciation to the surviving veterans, many of whom were not able to properly celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

Nearly 3000 ‘Forget You Not’ gift boxes have already been sent but there is one last push to find the remaining 2000 veterans from across the UK and send their boxes to them.

The partnership are calling on Worcestershire residents to help as many veterans as possible from our county and across the UK receive this token of gratitude, you can nominate any veteran of the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and Merchant Navy who served during World War Two and who lives in the UK.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Communities said: “This year was supposed to be a particularly poignant and special year in the Armed Forces Community, giving us the chance to mark the truly remarkable efforts of our veterans.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed our plans. The Forget You Not gift box is a fantastic initiative, giving the community a chance to come together and say thank you to our veterans in Worcestershire, and I would love to see all veterans in Worcestershire receive one. So if you know someone who may be eligible to receive one, please visit the Not Forgotten website.”

The ‘Forget You Not’ boxes aim to mark the celebration of 75 years since the end of the Second World War, an event which is integral to our history. Nominate a veteran and let them know their service is valued and they are not forgotten.”

Nominations can be made on the ‘The Not Forgotten’ website.
