Over 16,000 customers visit Worcestershire’s open libraries in July Published Wednesday, 5th August 2020

Over 16,000 library customers have visited Worcestershire’s libraries since the phased re-opening began in July.

Since the first phase of re-opening on the 4th July, visitor numbers break down to show the following:

  • Over 5,400 have visited the Hive
  • Over 3,200 have visited Redditch Library
  • Almost 2,200 customers have visited Malvern Library
  • Over 2,400 have visited Kidderminster Library
  • Over 1,500 customers have visited Bromsgrove Library
  • Over 1,000 customers have visited Evesham Library

Since re-opening, Libraries have also provided much needed digital access to local residents, recording over 1,500 unique computer sessions during the period.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “I’m really pleased with the figures since the re-opening, it’s great to see that our libraries remain popular despite the testing times we’re in.

I’d like to say thank you to our libraries staff for the hard work and dedication that has gone into ensuring our libraries are safe during these testing times. Another thank you must go to our customers, who have been great in making these figures a reality by following the current COVID-19 regulations. It proves once again we’re a county of library users.”

The success of the Digital Library Hub is continuing to compliment the re-opening of libraries, with another fantastic set of figures for the last month.

The total number of e-issues including e-books, e-audiobooks, and e-magazines for July (17,092)  was the highest ever such calendar-month total for Worcestershire Libraries.

Compared with July last year, last month's new Digital Memberships total was up by over 300%.

The total of new digital memberships for the Digital Library Hub since 23rd March (1,447) is 315.8% higher than the total for the same period last year (348).

Another five libraries opened across Worcestershire on 3rd August with Droitwich, Stourport, St John’s, Tenbury and Wythall opening their doors to customers for the first time since March. The first day of opening saw 560 people visit.

In line with the current guidance, the Council would like to remind customers to please wear a face covering when visiting any of the re-opened Worcestershire Libraries.
