Work is set to start next month on five new road crossings which will be installed across the county.

New zebra crossings will be installed at each of the five locations to improve pedestrian safety and provide better access to local amenities.

Work on the first two crossings will begin week starting Monday 10 August. This work is on Brickfields Road in Worcester and Hewell Road in Redditch.

Councillor Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways, said: "It’s great that we’re now in a position to get these crossings installed across the county over the next few months.

“We have been made aware by the local communities in each of these areas of the need for new road crossings, to improve safety and access to local services and it’s important that we act on this local knowledge.”

The positioning of the crossing on Brickfields Road will be just to the west of the junction with Poplar Avenue and Ash Avenue and will include some preparatory street lighting work in the area, week commencing Monday 3 August.

The Hewell Road crossing is being installed in preparation for the new Holyoakes School and will be positioned just off the roundabout with Salters Lane and Pointer’s Way. There will also be some street lighting work in the area from Thursday 6th August.

Both sets of works will require temporary traffic lights and a night closure will take place for four nights as part of the works on Hewell Road.

The other new crossings are planned for Station Road in Pershore, Tolladine Road in Worcester and Willow Way in Redditch. These works are scheduled to take place later in the summer.
