Worcestershire County Council has welcomed the announcement from Central Government regarding free schools and the creation of more school places.
Following the announcement, the Rivers C of E Academy Trust can move forward with their application to create an Alternative Provision free school in Wyre Forest.
The school, which would become known as the Unity Academy, is still subject to a full planning application.
It would be built on part of the site of the former Sladen Middle School in Kidderminster.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Education and Skills, said: “We are really pleased that an application from the Rivers CofE Academy Trust has been approved, allowing them to open an Alternative Provision free school in the Wyre Forest area. The new school will allow us to continue the progress and improvements we are making, to help children across the county reach their full potential. We look forward to extending our strong working relationship with The Rivers Trust who already run 12 schools across the county. The school will offer provision to 60 primary age pupils which will be tailored to the individual needs of the child and their family. It will also offer a highly personalised and alternative curriculum which will help prepare children to reintegrate productively back into mainstream schools.”
