Requests to improve infrastructure for cyclists

Requests to improve infrastructure for cyclists

Request various different cycling related infrastructure improvements.

The Minor Infrastructure Projects Team delivers an annual programme of small scale transport projects to improve facilities within Worcestershire for cyclists.

If your community or business would benefit from an improvement to cycling infrastructure, you can make a request.

Requests for new cycle routes both on and off-road and via new rights of way, cycle stands, crossings, signing and the addition or removal of barriers to assist with safety concerns and accessibility can be made by visiting the links below. However, if you would like to make any other type of request such as request an advanced stop line or cycle contraflow, please visit the 'Other cycling improvements' link below.

Once the Minor Infrastructure Projects Team has received your request a sifting exercise is undertaken to ascertain if the request is feasible to then go forward for potential future funding.

Pedestrian and/or cyclist crossing

Pedestrian and cycle crossing improvements provide the opportunity for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road more safely than their current situation allows.

Cycle Crossing facilities are located where there are existing off road cycle routes which would connect to the crossing point.

Crossings fall into one of two categories:

1. Signal controlled (Puffin, Toucan and Pelican)

2. Other crossings (Zebra, Pedestrian Refuge, Pedestrian Dropped Crossing)

Not every environment is suitable for all crossing types, for example, the only crossing appropriate for cyclists is a toucan crossing.

Pedestrian barriers on cycle routes

The purpose of a pedestrian barrier is to guide pedestrians where there is a potential for conflict between pedestrians and vehicles. Short stretches of barriers are commonly placed outside the gates of primary schools and nurseries, to contain groups of pedestrians before they take their route.

Requests for the removal or alternation of barriers will also be considered if they are deemed to impact accessibility for wheelchair/ mobility scooter and pushchair users.
