Download: "Guidance on supply and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)" letter from NHS England and NHS Improvement - 20 March 2020

PPE - update 22 April 2020

All providers should source PPE as usual from their established suppliers, or from new suppliers if necessary. Providers can also continue to contact the National Supply Disruption Response on 0800 915 9964.

If you are struggling to source PPE from your normal supply chains or from the national response line, and require PPE in order to fulfil caring duties, the Council has a limited supply which can be used as a last resort where providers are unable to buy through suppliers and wholesalers. Please contact highlighting your current situation and PPE requirements and we will endeavour to assist.

Guidance on covering care calls

If you can't cover for care calls, please follow your own Business Continuity Plans and explore all potential alternatives. If care calls can still not be completed please contact the Council’s Access Triage and Intervention Service (ATIS) on 01905 768053 or email or the relevant social work team.

Guidance on contingency plan for each individual

Each individual service user should be assessed to create a risk rating and relevant risk assessments and care plans/contingency plans put into place, if not in place already.

Guidance on recruitment and managing staff levels

New recruits and DBC checks

If you recruiting new social care workers, you still need to complete DBS checks. However, there has been a temporary change to support the process of DBS checks and ensure they are not delayed. Visit GOV.UK - COVID-19: Changes to DBS ID checking guidelines (opens in a new window) website for more information.

Managing staffing levels

If you have insufficient staff to cover calls please contact an agency in the first instance. Cancel annual leave. Consider reducing non-critical calls. Ensure risk rating for service users are up to date.
