Churchfields Urban Highway Improvement Scheme Progress

June 2020

Work has been progressing well since the government relaxations on site working. Work is being carried out in accordance with the Highway Sector’s Site Operating Procedures with regard to the control of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

The next phase will see essential works on the Horsefair and Broad Street junction to bring the junction up to A road quality.

February 2020

Work is well underway to convert part of Churchfields into an A-road and to redesign the Horsefair. Closures in both areas are now in place.

Work starts on Monday 4 March on the A456 St Marys Ringway. This work includes a closure of the inside lane of the Ringway to allow for the development of the entrance to the new link road and the left in left out lane at St Marys Street. The closure will be in place from Lower Mill Street to the roundabout with Blackwell Street and will last for approximately three months.

January 2020

Over the past couple of months, work has focused on preparing the land on the former CMS site and a number of major utility diversions. Western Power, Openreach and Virgin Media have all completed diversion works around the new entrances to the link road off the roundabout to Churchfields.

The next phase will see essential works starting on Churchfields to convert it into an A-road and the reconfiguration of the gyratory on the Horsefair. To allow these works to progress full road closures, in both areas, will be required and these are planned to start on Wednesday 12th February 2020. A diversion will be in place for approximately two months.

November 2019

Work is underway in the area and has, so far, focused on clearing the former CMS site, including the demolition of the old building. Work has also started on a number of utility diversions.
