The purpose of a pedestrian barrier is to guide pedestrians where there is a potential for conflict between pedestrians and vehicles. Short stretches of barriers are commonly placed outside the gates of primary schools and nurseries, to contain groups of pedestrians before they take their route.
Requests for the removal or alternation of barriers will also be considered if they are deemed to impact accessibility for wheelchair/ mobility scooter and pushchair users.
