Residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors are invited to share their views on the emerging walking and cycling route proposals for the Redditch Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP).

Worcestershire County Council has been working in partnership with active travel charity Sustrans in developing a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for Redditch, one of eight LCWIPs planned across Worcestershire.

We would like to hear your views on the emerging Redditch LCWIP, including whether the most important walking and cycling routes have been identified. We acknowledge that walking and/or cycling is not an option for everyone and so we would especially like to hear the views of people who find it challenging to walk or cycle in Redditch and the surrounding area. The finalised Redditch LCWIP will set out a prioritised list of schemes for delivery over the next ten years to improve the safety, comfort, and attractiveness of walking, cycling, and wheeling. The term "wheel” includes using wheelchairs or mobility scooters. 

For this initial Redditch LCWIP, the study area covers the main urban area of Redditch reflecting that these areas have the greatest potential for growing walking and cycling.

Why are we developing a cycling and walking plan for Redditch?

In 2017 the Government published its first Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy, which encouraged local authorities to prepare their own cycling and walking plans to enable a more strategic approach to improving conditions for cycling and walking. These plans, known as Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) are a new, strategic approach to identifying cycling and walking improvements required at a local level.

LCWIPs will help Worcestershire make the case for future investment in active travel through funding bids and by informing discussions with developers. The development of our LCWIPs has been supported by funding of £160K from the Capability Building Fund awarded by Active Travel England.

How can you have your say?

The purpose of this public consultation is to gather the views of as many different groups of people within Redditch and surrounding areas as possible. The information here sets out the proposed cycling and walking routes of the LCWIP and you are invited to give feedback on these proposals via the short survey.

The survey closed on Friday 24 November 2023. We will provide an update when the survey results have been reviewed.

What happens next?

The purpose of the engagement exercise is to provide an opportunity for the local community and other stakeholders to comment on the proposals for the emerging LCWIP for Redditch. Once the engagement period is over, Worcestershire County Council will review and consider all the feedback received.

A summary of the comments received and how these will be used to inform the development of the LCWIP will be published on this web page. Further engagement will then be undertaken on a draft Redditch LCWIP document in due course.
