For individuals looking for information, advice and guidance from qualified and impartial professionals, the following programmes offer a free service to support users in identifying and securing their next pathway into employment in Worcestershire.

Advice and Guidance

National Careers Service 

The National Careers Service (NCS) offer free and impartial information, advice and guidance to help individuals with decisions about careers, courses and employment. NCS provide one-to-one support and guidance led by qualified careers advisers. Individuals are assessed to identify their career goals and aspirations and are supported through the journey of developing the skills required and finding opportunities in their chosen industry. 

Careers Worcs 

The Careers Worcs Information Advice and Guidance service offers support for 16 – 24 year olds looking for education or training choices: The service supports Worcestershire’s young people to understand their next steps in light of the Coronavirus Covid 19. Helping them to make informed careers decisions about education next steps for September, including current year 11 and year 13 students. 

Job Finding Support Service

The Job finding support service provides employment support for jobseekers across Great Britain, helping them build interview skills, find local vacancies and quickly get back into work. 

The quick-fire support will see a team of around 300 Job Search Advisors helping people to get back into work quickly and will help the recently unemployed who already have the skills and experience needed to move into a new career but might not be sure where to start.

The Job Finding Service will run in parallel to existing support available in jobcentres and by work coaches, as part of UK Government’s Plan for Jobs.

The £10m employment support will run over 12 months and forms part of our wider £30bn Plan for Jobs which is already helping people back into work as we level up and build back better.

Unemployment Support for 16-24s

For individuals aged 16-24 the following programmes offer a range of services to support young people with securing employment and training opportunities in Worcestershire. 

GLP Training

GLP Training provide support for young people aged 16-18 (19-24 with an EHCP) into their journey into working life through their employability study programme, starting September 2021.

The training centre in Worcester city centre boasts an impressive practical learning bay where learners will be taught things such as tiling, plumbing, painting and basic electrical work, as well as offering valuable employability skills to prepare young people for the next step in their journey. Also on offer is Maths and English courses and work experience opportunities to prep and prepare learners for an apprenticeship and or employment.

Pershore Riverside 

Pershore Riverside is a programme that uses mentoring to build employability skills in users. The programme includes an induction process (1-2-1) followed by team building exercises. Riverside primarily use water sports as a tool to get individuals out of their comfort zone and identify strengths and weaknesses. Support is tailored to users’ personal goals and future progression. The course ends with a variety of guest speakers and information on other courses available to motivate and captivate individuals progress going forward. 

Worcestershire Apprenticeships 

Worcestershire Apprenticeships are a free apprenticeship hub who provide services for young people, parents and employers to encourage the growth of apprenticeship opportunities and increase the number of young people becoming apprentices in Worcestershire. The Apprenticeships team offer 1-1 support for anyone 16 to 24 years of age but are happy to advise anyone over 25 years. 

Young Solutions 

Young Solutions offer a mentoring programme to increase individual’s confidence to either access employment or education options, offering a supportive ear to discuss your individual situation and help to make the next choice. Young Solutions programme also supports to address issues such as homelessness, drugs and alcohol, mental health and others.


Workpays are a training provider who work working to support young people aged 16 – 24 to deliver a range of bespoke training programmes, which lead to recognised accredited qualifications that support to gain employment. 

2 counties training 

2 Counties Training provide individuals aged 16-24 with pre apprenticeship training programmes (traineeships). Traineeships are work experience focussed and support users by preparing them for their future career. The programmes are 21 hours per week for 26 weeks and will focus on developing generic employability skills that will enhance future applications for Apprenticeships or employment in any occupational area. This will involve 2 or 3 days per week in work experience, and one day per week off-the-job working towards achievement of an employability qualification and English and Maths functional skills qualifications. 


Traineeships are education and training programmes with work experience that are focused on giving young people the skills and experience that employers are looking for. At its core are work preparation training, English and Maths and a high-quality work experience placement. During the placement skills will be gained to help individuals secure an apprenticeship or to find full-time employment.

A Traineeship also provides the opportunity for users to build their CV and receive interview practice and support. Traineeships in Worcestershire are available with Two Counties Training, Nova Training, Warwickshire Group of Colleges and Kidderminster College. Worcestershire Apprenticeships can also support you in finding a Traineeship. 

Princes Trust 

The Prince’s Trust Employment, Teamwork and Community skills programme offers a qualification through 12 weeks of personal development. The programme aims to: 

  • Build self-esteem

  • Make new friends 
  • Develop group and teamwork skills 
  • Participate in work experience 
  • Develop presentation skills 
  • Progression opportunities are available upon completion 

Princes Trust details:


Prospects offer young people the opportunity to achieve Level 1 Certificate in Progression and/or Level 1 Award in Vocational Studies. This is achieved through the delivery of:

Upon completion of the programme there is the option to progress to Apprenticeships, Further Education, or Employment.

Malvern Business Academy work in conjunction with housing associations to unlock potential and move individuals from benefits into self-sufficiency, either in self- employment, employment or a mixture. The course provides the following qualifications:

Nova Training offer traineeships in the following industries:

All learners regardless of bursary entitlement with be eligible for £150 worth of bonuses throughout the programme based on attendance, qualification achievement and progression. Work experience and placements are a major part of the programme and learners will be on placement by week 2.

Supporting Young People’s Journey to Work

Youth Employment UK, launched a new virtual learning programme for young people. Youth Employment UK are an independent, not for profit social enterprise founded in 2012 to tackle youth unemployment. This free tool will support young people to navigate their next steps and build their futures. 

This programme is aimed at young people 17+, it is their guide to navigating what’s next. Suitable for young people still in education, training, in a first career role or for those unemployed. Whatever their stage this programme will boost their self-awareness, skills, knowledge about the world of work and confidence in their place in it.

The 8 courses in the programme are highly interactive, mixing video, activities and opportunities for self-reflection to help young people discover more about themselves, their needs and how to plan their future.
Young people work through each course at their own pace achieving certificates, progress updates and more. Alongside the new courses is a brand new personal dashboard that helps to create their CV, find opportunities and unlock even more inspiring content. The journey never ends.

Unemployment Support for all

For individuals aged 16+ the following programmes offer a range of services and training opportunities to support users with securing employment in Worcestershire. 

Seetec Pluss - Restart Scheme 

The Restart Scheme will support individuals in receipt of Universal Credit in the IWSR who have been out of work for at least 12 and up to 18 months to get back into work. Serco was chosen by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to deliver the Restart Scheme in the West Central region and Seetec Pluss is one of the providers selected by Serco to support in the delivery of these services.

We want to ensure all Participants are given the best support to find employment and we will take our service out into the heart of the community to offer the best service. We have dedicated employment advisors and trainers who can offer enhanced support with finding jobs and training. We will be working with employers to offer exclusive job opportunities for our Participants. Health and wellbeing is paramount and our services are designed with the Participants’ wellbeing in mind.

The Onside BBO project

The Onside BBO project support anyone 16+ to access work and education within Worcestershire. All job coaches work on a one to one basis with the client and we will work with as long as needed. The client just needs to be unemployed.

BBO – Building Better Opportunities 

The BBO offer is an employability programme developed to help individuals move into employment. The programme is tailored to remove barriers to work by supporting users to gain the skills needed to move into employment. BBO offer life coaching, one-to-one support and personal development at a pace that suits individuals and their circumstances.

Building Better Opportunities is funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund.

Interlearn are a provider who offer quality training to support individuals to progress to their full potential in employment. Worcestershire Adult Learning 

Worcestershire County Council’s Adult Learning team offer a vast range of over 400 courses. The Adult Community Learning courses offer both accredited and non-accredited options, as well as a range of qualifications to learners to study at their own individual level. The programmes include: Community Learning, English & Maths, Vocational Skills, Family Learning, Leisure and Employability.

The Employability Suite, within the Adult and Community Learning Programme, focuses on delivering courses to learners, that support every stage needed for gaining employment. The courses cover subjects on; building and uploading digital CV’s, online job search, interviews (online or in person) and how to become a Volunteer.  

The Business Suite focuses on; setting up your business, building a website and promoting your business via social media. 

I.T courses, within the Adult and Community Learning Programme, are tailored to accommodate all levels of individuals abilities. The courses offered are aimed at ensuring learners gain skills to enhance their job opportunities. 

All courses mentioned offer learners to choose their own starting point and their own journey through the courses based on their own individual needs. Delivery can be online, in a venue or both.

The Connecting Communities programme is available for individuals in the Batchley and Brockhill, Redditch districts only. This tailored programme works to identify each person’s support needs and how to overcome the challenges to get back into work. This includes a variety of support and guidance such as:

Connecting Communities Programme details:

Droitwich CVS 

A Council for Voluntary Service (DCVS) is an independent local voluntary organisation that exists to support, promote and develop local voluntary action. DCVS offer a mentoring programme to help clients establish what employment or education route they would like to take. Support provided can include assisting learners to apply for college or to apply for jobs. DCVS also offer accredited qualifications in Maths and English. 

NCLP Stepping out 

NCLP is a not for profit organisation with charitable aims which provides educational and welfare-based courses with embedded life skills for young people, parents, and parents to be. NCLP support with skills, learning and training by carrying out activities in small groups which include: managing money, social relationships, using social media safely, health and wellbeing, mental health awareness, interview techniques, applying for jobs, CV writing, accredited childcare qualifications and mentor support and advice. 

NCLP programmes are mapped to government standards and address parenting skills, educational welfare and healthcare needs, with embedded life and functional skills. 


The Odell Centre is an organisation who work with individuals with special educational needs. The programme identifies barriers individuals face when achieving their aspirations and career goals and use this information to deliver learner plans which consist of activities planned to help learners progress towards their goals. 
The programme offers recreational, leisure and social opportunities and encourages individuals to be self-motivated and to make informed choices on their futures. 


Stepway is a charity that aim to promote social inclusion among veterans of the armed forces in Worcestershire. Stepway work with veterans to establish what their priority needs are and how they can support in improving their wellbeing. Stepway offer a 7-Step Civilian Programme focussed on supporting mental health to ease the transition into employment or further education.

The Old Needleworks 

The Old Needleworks are a mental health and wellbeing hub based in Redditch, Worcestershire. The Hub offer a “steps to success” programme aimed at supporting individuals 25+ to meet their career aspirations. Learners are given the opportunity to attend learning sessions and 1-2-2 advice sessions with a wellbeing coach, on completion of the programme, an accredited qualification is awarded. 


Vestia focuses on delivering services that improve lives, this includes helping long term unemployed into work, providing support for families and helping communities have a greater say in their area.  We offer short courses to help people get back into work; these are fully funded if you are 19+ and on certain benefits.

Heart of Worcestershire (HoW) College 

HoW College is the largest further education college in Worcestershire County; with campuses in Bromsgrove, Redditch, Worcester and Malvern. HoW College provides vocational, technical and professional courses, access programmes, apprenticeships, degrees, foundation degree, HNDs, HNCs, NVQs and business training. Subject areas include accounting and bookkeeping, art and design, construction, engineering and manufacturing, hospitality and catering, law, hair and beauty, media production and sports and fitness. Study can be full or part-time for some courses. 

Pathway to Care

We have an exciting new opportunity for individuals looking for an opportunity to work in the Adult Social Care sector. We are delighted to be able to offer ‘Pathway to Care’ to prospective learners in the Worcestershire and Herefordshire region. 

The course will give learners an insight and awareness of the roles and responsibilities of the care worker in order to progress their career. ‘Pathway to Care’ takes a rounded approach to support learners in flourishing into professional individuals ready for the workplace. Learners will have a better understanding of the skills, attitudes and principles of a care worker to help them become well equipped in applying for prospective roles. Areas covered will include communication, dementia awareness and the expectations of care worker, both physically and emotionally.  

Work Ready

We have an exciting opportunity for individuals who are looking to progress their skills to become dynamic individuals ready for the workplace.

The course will focus on transferable skills that can support across a wide range of employment opportunities. 
This qualification will cover topics such as Customer Service, Behaviours, Attitudes and Attributes Required for Employment, Understanding Professional Relationships, and Developing Own Interpersonal Skills which will support individuals build resilience for the workplace. 

We are delighted to extend this course out into many different areas including, Worcestershire and Birmingham.

Kidderminster College 

Kidderminster College is part of NCG, one of the largest education and training providers in the UK. Kidderminster College provides opportunities in further and higher education including apprenticeships and traineeships. A wide variety of courses are offered on a full or part-time basis and include animal care, digital games design and development, musical theatre, hair and media make-up and travel and tourism.


WCG is a group of further and higher education college which has seven sites over Warwickshire and Worcestershire. The three sites in Worcestershire are at Evesham, Pershore and Malvern Hills Centre for Digital and Cyber Technology.
